30 before 30- #15 Silence of the Lambs

I promised myself when I started this project I would not stress out about it. I have a tendency to be a bit obsessive when I’m goal oriented…and I refused to let 30 before 30 become anything but an enjoyable challenge. That said, with August upon us and oh-my-word a little over 2 months to complete the project, I did a bit of editing to the list. That is to say, took a few items off that would take more than two months and added a few items.

In the revised version I added seeing Silence of the Lambs. This particular edit has been brought to you by the midget’s Hannibal phase, and for more on that see her thoughts on the first two seasons of the tv show.

The midget said I should see this movie because I would love the character of Clarisse. And she was right, Jodie Foster’s character has a quiet, deep strength to her that is so very human. She’s afraid, she makes mistakes, but she doesn’t let that stop her, or define her. I am glad I saw this movie just to see this character.

I decided this morning when I was searching for a picture to go with this post that this movie did disturb me, and I would likely not watch it again. But I do not regret seeing it. Every scene, every shot, every word in the movie feels so carefully placed. Nothing feels thrown in just for dramatic effect. And it is that quiet story telling that sucks you in and forces you to pay attention.
